HC Truck Licence Training & Assessment
Examples of HC Truck vehicles
HC vehicles include:
- articulated vehicles with 3 or more axles
- heavy rigid vehicle trailer combinations including unladen dolly, with 3 or more axles
- any towed trailer with a GVM more than 9 tonnes.
To apply for an HC licence, you must:
- have held a class MR or HR licence or equivalent for 1 year or more
- pass the Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test
- pass an eyesight test
- successfully complete the HVCBAor pass a heavy vehicle driving test.

✅ Step 1: Check Your HC Licence Eligibility
To qualify for the HC Licence course with us, you must meet the following NSW criteria:
- Have held a valid MR (Medium Rigid) or HR (Heavy Rigid) licence for at least 12 months.
- Present a current medical certificate that meets NSW health standards.
- Pass the Heavy Vehicle Combination Knowledge Test at Service NSW.
- Obtain your HC learner log book from Service NSW.

COURSE STRUCTURE
- Pre-operational Check
- Cabin Drills
- Start, move off , shut down & securing the vehicle
- Manage Steering
- Manages Gears
- Managing brakes
- Managing Accelerator
- Create and maintain Crash Avoidance Space
- Protecting Crash Avoidance Space
- Road Rules and Directions
- Minimum requirement to maneuver reverse (straight line & loading dock)
- Hill Stop/ Start
- Load Securing
- Coupling/Uncoupling (only for HC and MC)
- Bus stop procedure (MR and HR only)
🎯 Step 4: Complete Your Final Assessment
- At Todd’s Sydney Truck Licence, we conduct the final HVCBA ourselves. This means you’ll be assessed in a familiar vehicle by our assessors , making the process seamless and significantly less stressful.
🎉 Step 5: Receive Your HC Licence!
- Upon successfully passing your assessment, we issue your certificate of competency. Simply take this certificate to Service NSW to have your new HC licence officially issued.
